“This is an historic day for all MPs to collectively liberalize ganja (cannabis), our ancient Thai medical herb and make it legitimate.”
Thailand Public Health Minister and Bhumjaithai party leader Anutin Charnvirakul
The country, known for its harsh punishments for anything related to drugs has come to terms with the health benefits that cannabis has to offer. With an overwhelming majority the Thai governing party Bhumjaithai voted in favor and passed a bill to fully legalize cannabis and hemp home cultivation.
As per ThaiPBS Public Health Minister and Bhumjaithai party leader Anutin Charnvirakul said that “the Bill is not intended to legalize the use of cannabis or marijuana in a way that would promote its use in public in a way which would cause a nuisance to other people, but is primarily intended to make use of the two plants for medical and health purposes.”
With legalizing cannabis the Thai government has also decided to release a total of 4200 inmates imprisoned for cannabis related crimes 3071 will be released this Thursday (June 9th) and the rest after review and making sure they have not committed other crimes unrelated to cannabis.
