Making cannabis oil at home is not as complicated as you might think. It's pretty simple and can be done in just a few easy steps. Here's how to do it:
First, Flower To Oil Ratio
Cannabis flower is usually sold by the gram, and oils are bought by the milliliter. To make things easy, we will use a 5 to 1 flower-to-oil ratio. So, if you have 5 grams of cannabis flower, you will need 1 milliliter of oil. If you have 10 grams of cannabis flower, you will need 2 milliliters of oil, and so on.
The Steps
1. Start by Decarboxylating your cannabis. Decarboxylation is the process of converting THCa (the acidic form of THC) into THC (the psychoactive form).
To do this, simply preheat your oven to 230 degrees Fahrenheit and spread your ground cannabis on a baking sheet. Bake for about 30 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes or so.
2. Once your cannabis is decarboxylated, it's time to add it to your chosen oil. For this recipe, we'll be using olive oil, but you can use any type of oil you like. Add the decarboxylated cannabis to a jar or container with your chosen oil and stir well.
3. Next, place the jar or container in a saucepan or pot filled with water. The water should come up about halfway up the sides of the jar similar to a double boiler.
A double boiler is a type of cooking device that is used to heat food gently and slowly. It consists of two pots: an inner pot that holds the food to be cooked, and an outer pot that contains boiling water. The outer pot acts as a kind of water bath, surrounding the inner pot with gentle heat and preventing the food from being exposed to direct heat and becoming overcooked.
Double boilers are often used for cooking delicate foods such as custards, sauces, and chocolate. They are also sometimes used for cooking dishes that require a longer cooking time, such as rice or quinoa.
4. Put the saucepan on the stove over low heat and simmer for 2-3 hours, stirring occasionally. You don’t want the mixture to come to a boil, so just keep it at a low simmer.
5. After 2-3 hours, remove the jar or container from the saucepan and allow it to cool slightly. Then, use a fine-mesh sieve like a cheesecloth or coffee filter to strain the oil into a new jar or container. Be sure to squeeze all of the oil out of the cheesecloth or coffee filter to get every last drop.
Your cannabis-infused oil is now ready to use! You can use it in any recipe that calls for oil, or you can use it to make your edibles like brownies or sauces. Enjoy!
