Activating Therapeutic Compounds
To use cannabis for its medicinal qualities, the therapeutic compounds in the plant must be activated. Smoking the flowers and extracts provides the necessary heat for activation. Otherwise, for the compounds to come to life in baked edibles, the plant matter must be slowly heated in fat.
The important compounds are fat soluble, and for brownies I prefer to use infused vegetable oil. This process is called decarboxylation
Cannabis Brownies recipe:
I follow Grandma’s secret recipe for my brownies, but any boxed brownie mix will work.
- ½ cup cannabis infused oil
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- â…“ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
Instructions:
- Mix together all dry ingredients.
- Add wet ingredients. Whisk until incorporated.
- Separate batter into a standard muffin pan.
- Bake brownies for 35 minutes at 300°F, or until a toothpick inserted into a brownie comes out clean. This will yield 12 brownies.
I recommend starting off with one half of a brownie to observe the effects it may have, but generally one brownie will achieve the best results.
I prefer to use a muffin tin since it is easier to control portion sizes. One brownie should be enough to create a sense of relaxation and calmness. They are ideal for diminishing anxiety. I have offered them to people who have trouble sleeping due to stress and have received positive input as to their efficacy.
